Senior engineers who write tight PRs, document as they work, and handle their own blockers when your team is asleep.
We staff full-time engineers into remote-first teams, not freelancers into Slack threads. Our core pod is India-based, with vetted contributors in Eastern Europe and LATAM when an engagement needs broader time-zone overlap. Every engineer goes through a 5-stage vetting that tests written communication, code review judgment, and follow-through across time zones, not just technical depth. We've been doing this since 2011 for SaaS founders, scale-ups, and enterprises.
Profiles tailored to your tech stack & timeline
Twelve role categories on the bench. Every engineer goes through the same five-stage vetting, including a round specifically on how they write, document, and review code. If your gap doesn't sit cleanly in one card, we'll spin a small pod that crosses two or three.
Node.js, Python, Java, Go, .NET. Microservices, event-driven systems, GraphQL, REST. Async PR reviews and written architecture decisions as default.
Hire Node.js DevelopersReact, Next.js, Vue, Angular, Svelte. Core Web Vitals targets, INP under 200ms work, accessibility-first markup. Strong PR-writing habit.
Hire React DevelopersNative iOS (Swift, SwiftUI), native Android (Kotlin), cross-platform (React Native, Flutter). Production App Store and Play Store experience.
Hire Mobile DevelopersOpenAI, Anthropic, Llama, Pinecone, LangGraph. RAG pipelines, multi-agent orchestration, eval harnesses. Senior engineers who’ve shipped LLM features into production, not just demos.
Hire AI DevelopersAWS, Azure, GCP. Kubernetes, Terraform, GitHub Actions, Datadog. 24/5 incident response across multi-region pods when the engagement requires it.
Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, Appium. JMeter and k6 for performance. QA embedded inside delivery squads, written test plans, async defect triage.
PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery. Schema design, query tuning, sub-second analytics over multi-billion-row tables.
Multi-cloud and hybrid designs. AWS Well-Architected reviews, Azure Landing Zones, GCP organization policies. SOC 2 and HIPAA-ready cloud patterns.
Engineers who ship from API to UI in a single PR. A strong default for early-stage product teams where one person needs to own a whole feature end to end.
8+ year leads who own architecture, code review, and multi-team delivery. Useful when your in-house lead is stretched and a phase needs senior judgement.
OWASP Top 10, SOC 2 audit prep, threat modelling, IAM hardening. Pair with DevOps for compliance-bound builds.
Engineers who care about UX outcomes, not just shipped tickets. Useful for product teams where the line between design and engineering matters.

From signed engagement letter to first commit, the typical timeline is 7 to 10 working days. The first call screens fit. We don't send profiles until we believe we're the right answer.
Day 0 · 30-min senior-engineer call
Thirty minutes with a senior engineer. We figure out what you actually need before we send profiles. The honest question: does your team really run async, or do you run sync meetings with a remote attendee on Zoom? The answer changes which engineer we match.
Day 1 to 5 · 2-3 profiles
2 or 3 vetted profiles, region-matched to your time-zone need. US Eastern engagements get India plus LATAM. UK and EU get Eastern Europe. Australia and APAC get India plus Philippines. Bench mix is a deliberate match decision, not a default.
Day 5 to 7 · your call
Your interview, our scheduling. Optional async-communication test if you want a fourth-stage check on PR-writing and written architecture habit. Optional 2-week paid discovery sprint to validate engineering quality on real work.
Day 8 to 10 · first commit
Contracting under your jurisdiction (US Delaware, UK, Singapore, Australia). Tooling onboarding to Slack, Linear, GitHub, Notion. First commit by day 10. We’re the entity-of-record so you avoid the misclassification risk that comes with direct contractor hiring.
US AI startup (Series A, anonymized)
“We needed 24/5 incident-response coverage for our UK fintech. ScalaCode stacked an India + Eastern Europe pod with documented hand-off protocols in our repo. 18 months in, the rotation runs without any of my engineers getting paged at 3 AM.”
UK fintech (Series B, anonymized)
“The 2-week discovery sprint was the right way in. We saw the engineer ship a non-trivial PR by week 2 and made the longer hire decision with actual signal, not interview vibes. Both engineers are still on the team a year later.”
Australian SaaS (anonymized)
“We’d been through Toptal twice and Upwork once before ScalaCode. The difference was the engineer was hired specifically for async work. Our weekly meeting load dropped four hours per engineer inside two months. The PR descriptions were better than ours.”
The engineer joins your standup, sits in your repos, reports to your tech lead. We handle payroll and benefits as Employer of Record under your jurisdiction. You direct the technical work.

Contact Our ExpertsCore engineering pod in India. Time-zone overlap with US East, UK/EU, and APAC built into how we staff. We pick the region that matches your standup, not the cheapest seat.
Our vetting tests communication, documentation habit, and PR-writing alongside code. These are the skills that actually decide whether a remote hire works out.
Every engineer is a full-time ScalaCode employee. No 1099 freelancers, no benched gig workers, no three-layer subcontracting.
Engagement under US Delaware, UK, Singapore, Australia, or Germany. We’re the entity-of-record so you avoid misclassification risk.
Engineers stay on engagements. When one rotates off, we replace from inside the same practice with someone who already knows our patterns.
Optional paid trial. The engineer ships actual PRs against your repo, you see how they handle code review and design conversations, and you walk if it isn’t right.
24/5 or 24/7 coverage by stacking benches. We’ve run a UK fintech incident-response rotation across India and Eastern Europe for 18 months.
SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA BAA, GDPR Processor, ISO 9001. The audit trail is ready for procurement on first review.
Same vetting bar across every category. Group by your stack, not by ours.
Our remote developers are full-time ScalaCode employees, not marketplace contractors. We hire them specifically for distributed work, which means we test the things an interview usually misses: how they write things down, how they make decisions alone, whether they actually use the documentation they say they value. They aren’t engineers who happen to work from home. They’re hired and trained for this from day one.
Most of our engagements settle into a similar rhythm. Slack for back-and-forth. Loom for anything that would otherwise need a meeting. Linear or Jira for tracking. GitHub for code review. Notion for written context. Standups go to writing four days a week, with one 30-minute video call to surface anything that needs real-time attention. Teams we work with usually cut three to six hours of weekly meeting load per engineer in the first month.
Our core pod is India-based. For US Eastern teams, that’s a 3 to 4 hour daily overlap in your morning. For UK and EU, 5 or more hours of live overlap. For Australia and APAC, near-complete same-day overlap. When an engagement needs follow-the-sun delivery or 24/5 incident response, we add vetted contributors from Eastern Europe or LATAM on top of the India base. Multi-region pods exist, but they stack on top of the core, they don’t replace it.
Our full-time staff is in India. That’s where the bench sits, where vetting and training happen, and where the replacement pipeline lives when an engineer rotates off. For specific time-zone needs we work with long-standing remote contributors in Eastern Europe and LATAM. We don’t claim a 45-country bench. The home region of any engineer we place is a deliberate match decision, not a default.
We adapt to the tools you already use. Most engagements end up with Slack, Loom, Linear or Jira, GitHub or GitLab, Notion or Confluence, and Figma. The practices that matter more than the tools: write the PRD before any code is written, run standup in writing four days a week, keep one video sync per week, and do architecture discussion inline in PR comments instead of in calls.
Code review is async by default. The engineer writes the PR description with full context, including the problem, the approach taken, and what was considered and rejected. Your reviewer comes in the next morning, leaves comments, and the author iterates the same day. Most PRs go through two to three review cycles inside 24 to 48 hours, which is actually faster than the co-located version where PRs sit waiting for a hallway conversation.
A senior engineer (5 to 8 years) runs $1,800 to $2,500 a month on a dedicated full-time engagement, or $18 to $20 an hour. Leads and principals (8 years and above) are $3,200 to $4,000 monthly. The rate is driven by the engineer’s seniority, not by where the buyer is based. Annual commitments and multi-engineer pods bring the rate down a step.
Marketplaces like Toptal, Turing, and Upwork are faster to first match, but they’re variable on continuity, async fit, and what happens when an engineer rotates off. Andela is closer to our model on the bench side, with a different geographic mix. Two structural differences from any marketplace: our engineers are hired and trained specifically for distributed work, and when someone rotates off we replace from inside the same practice with someone who already knows your patterns. Rates also tend to run lower because there’s no marketplace markup between you and the engineer.
Seven to ten working days from signed engagement letter to first commit is typical. Days 1 to 5 are matching and interviews. Days 6 to 8 are contracting and onboarding into your stack. From day 9 the engineer is in your delivery cadence. We can compress the timeline for urgent needs, but we don’t compress the 5-stage vetting.
The engagement is contracted under your jurisdiction (US Delaware, UK, Singapore, Australia) on a work-for-hire basis. IP transfers to you on payment. Mutual NDA from kickoff. We provide BAAs for healthcare workloads, SOC 2 SubProcessor agreements for fintech, and GDPR processor agreements for EU buyers. The engineers stay our employees and you direct the technical work, so you avoid the misclassification risk that comes with hiring contractors directly.
